   Our Vbeam Perfecta Candela laser is up and running!  Featuring advanced micro-pulse technology, this laser is amazing: From rejuvenation by correcting red and brown discolorations of the skin, to eliminating virtually all vascular and pigmented lesions, it can do it all.

In Knoxville, plastic surgery requests remained steady for us at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Associates,PA throughout the summer and into early fall.  Not surprisingly, breast enlargement continues to be the most common procedure performed in our certified office surgical suite. Although saline remains the most popular implant requested, several patients recently requested silicone implants.

Abdominoplasty also continues to be a popular procedure performed in our office surgery suite. The actual surgery lasts about 3 hours and always includes liposuctioning of the waist and front/sides of the hips. Liposuctioning these areas improves overall contouring results.

As always, we emphasize a thorough discussion of potential risks as well as benefits for all procedures. With abdominoplasty one of the most serious potential risks is deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with subsequent pulmonary embolus (PE). A PE can be fatal.

Both the patient and surgery staff must work together to minimize this risk: As the patient, always disclose any personal or family history of DVT, PE, or unusual clotting problems. Smoking and a BMI greater than thirty also increase the risk of PE. The responsibilities of the surgery staff include keeping you warm before, during, and after surgery; using an intermittent compression device on the legs; and encouraging early ambulation.

Although not an assurance for future outcomes, none of our abdominoplasty patients has ever had a DVT or PE. We have never had a patient death or an unplanned transfer to an emergency room from our office surgery suite. We continue to make your safety our top priority.
