Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that helps to correct droopy upper eyelids or puffy bags below the eyes by removing the excess skin and fat from the eyelid that can cause you to look older and tired. This droopy eyelid treatment can help patients look younger and more alert for 10 or more years!
Causes of Droopy Eyelids
There are two primary causes of droopy eyelids: age and genetics. As a person ages, the eyelids can stretch, causing excess skin and fat around the eyelid. This in turn can make you look older and more tired. But, younger patients can experience this same bagginess and puffiness simply because of genetics. So, while most patients who opt into blepharoplasty are over the age of 35, Dr. Lazarus also treats younger patients who are unhappy with the eyelids they’ve acquired genetically.
How Does the Procedure Work?
The procedure will focus on removing the excess skin and fat from your upper and/or lower eyelids, helping resolve any drooping or puffiness. Surgery time varies for each patient, but typically only takes one to three hours, and a detailed treatment plan is provided to each patient. Plus, the incisions will be made along the natural creases of the eyelid, so you won’t have to worry about noticeable scarring post-surgery.
Often, a droopy eyelid treatment is performed in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures, like a facelift, working together to create an overall younger look. But, if you’re only concerned with the eyelid region, the surgery is highly effective when performed alone, too.
Blepharoplasty requires precise techniques and surgical expertise to ensure that everything goes smoothly. At ASPA, your surgery will be done in our AAAASF-accredited office-based plastic surgery practice, where a Certified Register Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) staff member will take good care of you. Dr. Lazarus applies his many years of experience and high levels of expertise to every eyelid surgery, so you can be confident we’ll meet your goals and expectations.
